Benji – Auditions

Cody Musical Theatre Group is seeking two little boys to play the part of Benji, the six-year-old son of the leading character in our production of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert. Benji could feasibly be a little older …so we welcome auditions from older boys who can look younger.

Performances are:

• Sun 15 Sep 6:00-10:00 – Technical rehearsal
• Mon 16 Sep 7:30-10:00 – Dress rehearsal
• Tue 17 Sep 7:30-10:00 – Show
• Wed 18 Sep 7:30-10:00 – Show
• Thu 19 Sep 7:30-10:00 – Show
• Fri 20 Sep 7:30-10:00 – Show
• Sat 21 Sep 2:30-5:00 – Show (matinee)
• Sat 21 Sep 7:30-10:00 – Show

Our two successful Benji’s will alternate performances. Benji appears at the beginning and end of this two-hour+ show, he has several lines in both scenes and sings a song with his Dad, so we are auditioning a little singing, and a scene. He is Australian (he lives in Alice Springs) so an Australian accent would be fab 😊

Auditions are to be held at Velmead School, Velmead Rd, Fleet, Hampshire, starting at 6.45 Thu 13 Jun. Audition pieces are available from the link below. Potential Benji’s don’t need to learn the pieces prior to audition, and can hold the words to help them, but a little practise prior to the audition and some familiarity with the words will always be helpful. The audition will be relaxed and friendly, with just 3 people attending (Sue, the Director, Leanne, the Musical Director and Devin, who plays Benji’s dad) …and the boys will audition in groups. Our goal is to make the experience a fun, positive and confidence building one for all the boys. Do bear in mind that we only need two Benji’s, so there may be some disappointment in the room (we honestly find the kids are fine, it’s the parents who find the rejection hardest!!)
